Musical Monday #104

Welcome to the 104th edition of Musical Monday, the weekly quiz that Soccer Dad and I alternate hosting. As always, the challenge is to identify the title and artist of each song quote below, as well as the common theme of the entire set of songs.

It's been a hectic last couple of weeks for me, so this edition is a bit trimmer than usual, but hopefully still a challenge! There are three groups of songs (1-19, 20-24, 25-30), each relating to the same overall theme, though in slightly different ways. Various songs in the third group also connect with the first or the second group (and in one case, with both!)

1) "I wanna lock you up in my closet"
2) "What to do on a night like this, music sweet I can't resist"
3) "We took the vows of man and wife"
4) "Can we make a secret rendezvous?"
5) "For all the dreams and schemes, people are as they seem"
6) "Danger in the shape of something wild"
7) "Just get yourself untied, are you gonna do it?"
8) "New York was cold and damp, TV is just a blank"
9) "She took the Greyhound at the general store"
10) "Almost rang the phone off the wall"
11) "Should I get in touch with the FBI?"
12) "It's got to be a quarter to 4"
13) "Well she's my woman of gold, and she's not very old"
14) "She likes her tapes on 10"
15) "Oh man, I think the clock is slow!"
16) "First of the fall and then she goes back"
17) "I was dying just to ask for a taste"
18) "How do you like the way he rocks and the way he rolls?"
19) "That Model A Vitimix makes it look like a pup"

20) "Has high blood pressure got a hold on me?"
21) "And that would wipe this smile right from my face"
22) "The pressure's high, just to stay alive"
23) "But nothing is real, and no one can feel like you"
24) "The land here is strong, strong beneath my feet"

25) "Blame the caffeine for all the 5 am phone calls"
26) "She sees my good deeds"
27) "Why'd you slip around secretly?"
28) "Doing all the things that makes my heart sing"
29) "Where the water tastes like wine"
30) "Ain't no doubt, we are here to party"

Good luck and enjoy!

PS: I know I still owe the answers for MM #102 - hope to add them sometime today.

So if the theme is "Hot" in song titles, maybe then "Hot" appears in the acts' names in 25 - 30. Of course that leaves the question of what 20 - 24 includes ...

At 8/4/09, 2:55 PM, Blogger Soccer Dad said...

Could 5 be "Hot in the city" by Bill Idol?

At 8/4/09, 3:13 PM, Blogger Soccer Dad said...

Maybe in the last group there's a song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I'm guessing though that Popcorn by Hot Butter is not represented! Then again it would really only fit in Musical Monday #40.

Another possible title for 1 - 19: Hot fun in the summertime.

22) The Heat is On (don't know by who)

Staying Afloat - it's a solo effort by Eagle Glenn Frey.

I was thinking the same thing.

And 26 does sound like Under the Bridge.

Based on Elie's hint that one song in the third group connects with both of the first two, I'd guess that one of the third group artists is Hot Hot Heat.

TRN,

I wouldn't know. All that contemporary music sounds like noise. Acch. I'm my father! :-)

Another possible group would be Canned Heat.

Soccer Dad - I think you're right.

29 - Going Up the Country - Canned Heat

Soccer Dad, have you ever heard Under the Bridge?

At 8/5/09, 6:09 PM, Blogger Soccer Dad said...

No. But the Red Hot Chili Peppers is a 90's group (isn't it). It's too new for me. :-)

Give a listen to Under the Bridge if you have a chance. It's a pretty good song.

From another geezer, I second the motion on "Under The Bridge". Nice song, and I'm not a general RHCP fan. Here's a link.

And yes, it is #26.

And Yitzchak's trivia question: What was the only song that the Hooterville Volunteer Fire Department Marching Band could play?

At 8/6/09, 1:17 AM, Blogger Yitzchak Goodman said...

Does the last group include a song by Hot Chocolate?

At 8/6/09, 2:40 AM, Blogger Soccer Dad said...

Good thinking Yitz,

Maybe 28 is You Sexy Thing.

At 8/6/09, 9:15 AM, Blogger Elie said...

Correct on 28.

For Yitz's quiz, I remember the Hootersville Band playing their one song clearly, but I never knew the title. I guess it must be "Hot Time In The Old Town Tonight" since that's the only old-time song I can think of that fits the category.

20. Heat Wave - Linda Ronstadt did a version of this song, but she was not the original...can't think of the name of the group...

Welcome back Gail. Good catch.

The original was by Martha (Reeves)and Vandellas (also Dancin' in the Streets.)

I don't know how I missed that one.

Great job, Soccer Dad, Clayton, Yitzchak, Laura, TRN, Staying Afloat, and Gail! You jointly ID'ed 20 out of 30 songs, as well as the theme, which, was "hot" and/or "heat". Appropriate, if a bit obvious, for the first August MM of 2009. (Although ironically, a place where this theme would not be fitting for this time of year, was the subject of my previous MM, Australia!)

The full set of correct answers:
