Adding Insult to Tragedy

We've been bombarded with bills for Aaron's hospital stay. The balance, even after insurance reimbursements, amounts to well into the thousands. Considering the inadequate care Aaron received in terms of pain management, as well as the hospital's dire lack of communication in failing to inform us of his real situation (both acknowledged by the head of the department), it seems like the height of callousness and gall for them to be asking for additional payment from us. But of course, these bills are just generated by computer.

In any event, Debbie and I drafted a pointed letter, which politely, if firmly, states our point of view regarding the sub-standard care. If the hospital is smart, they will prefer waiving the balances to inviting further publicity, or even more drastic responses on our part. We'll see.

Update: We got a callback yesterday that the doctors bill (one of the two main ones) was being forgiven. We still are waiting to hear from the hospital for their portion, which I guess comes from a different decision-maker.
