Musical Monday #54

Welcome to the 54th edition of Musical Monday, the weekly quiz that Soccer Dad and I alternate hosting. As always, the challenge is to identify the title and artist of each song quote, as well as the common theme of the set of songs. Once again this week, there are two separate groups of songs: #1-17 and #18-28. Both groups relate to the same theme, but approach it in different ways.

1) "House the people livin' in the street"
2) "They've seen places beyond my land"
3) "You were only waiting for this moment to arise"
4) "It gives the world its saddest sound"
5) "Sleep all day long"
6) "Must be the gypsy in their soul"
7) "For you, the sun will be shining"
8) "Hoppin' and a-boppin'"
9) "Up, up to the sky"
10) "Dogs begin to barkin', hounds begin to howl"
11) "You get so dizzy even walking in a straight line"
12) "Now they've lost themselves instead"
13) "And if that piece of mind won't stay"
14) "Take time for your pleasure and laugh with love"
15) "How in the world could I keep my seat?"
16) "He's got a grudge against Frank Perdue"
17) "We’ll murder them all amid laughter and merriment"

18) "There were voices down the corridor"
19) "I swear it's not too late!"
20) "I'd give the moon if it were mine to give"
21) "The good people of the world are washing their cars"
22) "I belong in the service of the Queen"
23) "I'd rather be a fool with a broken heart"
24) "Love you forever, and evermore"
25) "Then your burdens will be lighter and you'll surely find a way" (hint: looking for the original version of this song)
26) "I don't know if it's cloudy or bright"
27) "The kind of eyes that hypnotize me through"
28) "Love is just a game you played in high school"

Good luck and enjoy!

Did you mean #8

1 - Fly Like an Eagle - Steve Miller
3 - Blackbird - The Beatles
11 - Canary in a Coalmine - The Police
15 - Disco Duck - Rick Dees and his Cast of Idiots

18 - Hotel California - The Eagles
21 - All I Wanna Do - Sheryl Crow
27 - I Ran - A Flock of Seagulls

The theme is birds - the first group is songs *about* them, and the second is songs *by* them.

There are three kinds of people in the world, those who are good at math and those who aren't.

Clearly I'm in the latter group.

I mean doesn't 5 look like 8, just missing a diagonal?

Good thing Elie chose the "I swear it's not too late!" line, or else it would be originally by Kohelet.

There are three kinds of people in the world, those who are good at math and those who aren't.

There are 10 kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

Excellent.

I once wrote technical report (never published) "10 little endians." Well I thought it was cute.

I didn't recognize 24, but if it's Earth Angel, I believe the group is the Penguins.

Quack, Quack.

It is indeed cute.

Since the theme has already been nailed, I'm not giving away much by stating that Laura's guess for #26 above is the right title, but the wrong band.

7) Songbird - Fleetwood Mac.

I knew the platters didn't fit in with the theme but I can't think of who else sang it.

Great job, Tova, Soccer Dad, Clayton, Yitzchak, Laura, and the mysterious TRN! Together, you IDed 17 out of 28 songs titles and artists, plus another two titles - one of the best success rates yet! The theme of both song groups was indeed "for the birds", but with a slight difference in my criteria for each. The first group of songs have particular bird names in the titles (so I omitted "Freebird" and several others with generic "bird" titles), and the second group are artists with bird-related names.

I'm always missing easy quotes when I play during David's weeks, even ones that sound really familiar! It's a lot easier to compose these than to ID them.
