Musical Monday #32

Welcome to the 32nd edition of Musical Monday, the weekly quiz that Soccer Dad and I alternate hosting. Here we are, sandwiched between a Super Sunday and a Super Tuesday - both of which feature(d), for me, choices between two nearly equally disliked and distasteful alternatives. So let's try a little music to make this plain old Monday just a bit more super.

As always, for each numbered song quote below, identify the title and artist, as well as the common theme of the set of songs. Or actually today, the two related sub-themes, as per the gap between songs 16 and 17.

1) "Like a charmed hour and a haunted song"
2) "There’s always one reason to feel not good enough"
3) "Just touch my cheek before you leave me"
4) "Lonely as I am, together we cry"
5) "Let me start a fire with your spark"
6) "Birdland on 53; the street sounds like a symphony "
7) "Thunder is your night light, magic is your dream"
8) "Our love got fractured in the echo and sway"
9) "Showers, your love comes in showers"
10) "She never mentions the word 'addiction' in certain company"
11) "Do you think I'm home just sitting around?"
12) "Love you forever and ever more"
13) "They said they found my high school ring"
14) "What you're doing with a clown like me"
15) "Time to close your eyes and save these questions for another day"
16) "Masking themselves from fear and asking themselves who their friends are"

17) "I rode a tank, held a general’s rank"
18) "Granny, does your dog bite?"
19) "She's a real humdinger and I like it like that"
20) "I drank the potion she offered me, I found myself on the floor"
21) "Got two reasons why I cry away each lonely night"
22) "Makes you wonder how the other half die"
23) "I found a simple life wasn't simple"
24) "Don't take chances if your romance is so important to you"
25) "Ain't no mistakin', my body's shakin' "
26) "You fooled me with your kisses, you cheated and you schemed"
27) "Fate seems to give my heart a twist"
28) "We're a long, long way from home, Bobbie"
29) "He's the blood stain on the stage"
30) "And at the age of six they're gonna' get their kicks"

Enjoy and good luck!

Sigh. I'll have to come up with a new theme.

3) Angel of the Morning, Merilee Rush, Juice Newton (FWIW, I think this would be a great song for Lee Ann Womack.)
7) Under Cover Angel by that guy from Robin Hood's Merry Men, Alan O'Day.
11) Angel in your Arms, Hot. (This has a devil in it too.)
17) Sympathy for the Devil, Rolling Stones (a guess.)
20) Devil Woman, Cliff Richards

4) Under the Bridge by Red Hot Chili Peppers. Perhaps "Angel" is part of an alternative title?

Elie said it would be OK if I included a few of my own since this was a theme I had started working on.
a) She won't give permission tonight
b)And the bees they had stung her
c) It's like trying to catch a falling star
d)The flesh is weak but love is strong

9. Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel

Even though I think I got this one, I'm looking at the others' answers and see that the common theme is ANGEL.

Great job, Soccer Dad, Lel, Yitzchak, TRN, Cruisin Mom, and Pearl! Together, you ID'ed 15 out of 30 songs, including the theme, which was indeed Angels and Devils - a good followup to the Black and White theme of MM #31.

The full set of answers:
1) "Like a charmed hour and a haunted song"
- "Angel", Fleetwood Mac (yes SD, the "obligatory 'Tusk' song!")
2) "There’s always one reason to feel not good enough"
- "Angel", Sarah McLachlan
3) "Just touch my cheek before you leave me"
- "Angel Of The Morning", Merrilee Rush / Juice Newton / Pretenders
4) "Lonely as I am, together we cry"
- Note: Many of the lyrics sites called this song "City of Angels", but apparently its official title is "Under The Bridge" - in either case, it's by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and "City of Angels" is a prominent lyric
5) "Let me start a fire with your spark"
- "I'm No Angel", Gregg Allman
6) "Birdland on 53; the street sounds like a symphony"
– "Angel of Harlem", U2
7) "Thunder is your night light, magic is your dream"
- "Undercover Angel", Alan O'Day
8) "Our love got fractured in the echo and sway"
- "(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes", Elvis Costello
9) "Showers, your love comes in showers"
- "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel", Tavares
10) "She never mentions the word 'addiction' in certain company"
- "She Talks To Angels", The Black Crowes
11) "Do you think I'm home just sitting around?"
- "Angel In Your Arms", Hot / Reba McEntire
12) "Love you forever and ever more"
- "Earth Angel", The Penguins
13) "They said they found my high school ring"
- "Teen Angel", Mark Dinning
14) "What you're doing with a clown like me"
- "Angel Eyes", Jeff Healey Band
15) "Time to close your eyes and save these questions for another day"
- "Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)", Billy Joel
16) "Masking themselves from fear and asking themselves who their friends are"
- "Angels Have Fallen", Kansas

17) "I rode a tank, held a general’s rank"
- "Sympathy for the Devil", Rolling Stones
18) "Granny, does your dog bite?"
- "The Devil Went Down to Georgia", Charlie Daniels Band
19) "She's a real humdinger and I like it like that"
- "Devil With The Blue Dress On", Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels
20) "I drank the potion she offered me, I found myself on the floor"
- "Devil Woman", Cliff Richard
21) "Got two reasons why I cry away each lonely night"
– "Friend of the Devil", Grateful Dead
22) "Makes you wonder how the other half die"
- "Devil Inside", Inxs
23) "I found a simple life wasn't simple"
- "Running With The Devil", Van Halen
24) "Don't take chances if your romance is so important to you"
- "Devil In Her Heart", Beatles
25) "Ain't no mistakin', my body's shakin'"
- "Devil's Got a New Disguise", Aerosmith
26) "You fooled me with your kisses, you cheated and you schemed"
- "Devil In Disguise", Elvis Presley
27) "Fate seems to give my heart a twist"
- "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea", Cab Calloway, George Harrison
28) "We're a long, long way from home, Bobbie"
- "Devils and Dust", Bruce Springsteen
29) "He's the blood stain on the stage"
- "Shout at the Devil", Motley Crue
30) "And at the age of six they're gonna get their kicks"
– "Devil Gate Drive", Suzi Quatro. (Incidentally, she sang this song as her character Leather Tuscadero on one episode of Happy Days, which was an anachronism since the song was written two decades years after the timeframe in which the show was set!)

Tune in to Soccer Dad this Monday 2/11 for MM #33, and back here on 2/18 for MM #34.
