Musical Monday 21

Welcome to the 21st edition of Musical Monday, the weekly quiz that Soccer Dad and I alternate hosting. Or usually alternate - as I mentioned last week, we're swapping turns this and next week, so I'm here today, and Soccer Dad will cover #22 on 11/26 as well as #23 the following week.

For each numbered song quote below, identify the title and artist, as well as the common theme of the set of songs. Breaks between groups of songs are meaningful. As a bit of a hint (or an extra something to guess): one of last week's songs appears on today's quiz as well, though with a different quote of course. But that particular song is significant for a reason beyond the theme of either quiz.

With that, here goes:

1) "I'm a loser, what a joker"
2) "What is it we dream about? What brings on a sigh?"
3) "If you don't like it, you can't send it back"
4) "Obie said he was making sure"
5) "Drop a dime in the box, play a song about New Orleans"

6) "Not too particular, not too precise"
7) "Thirty-six hours rolling in pain"
8) "If only you were here, you'd wash away my tears"
9) "Maid Marian on her tiptoe feet"
10) "We were at a party, his ear lobe fell in the dip"
11) "They can't play baseball, they don't wear sweaters"

12) "Always no sometimes think it's me"
13) "I should have quit you baby, such a long time ago"
14) "The wind in the willow played love's sweet melody"
15) "Take it for what it's worth, throw the rest into the sun"
16) "He was pushing on through the shortening miles that ran down to the depot"
17) "I said 'Doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take?' "

18) "I open that door so slowly, take a peek up north and south"
19) "It’s a long way down to the place where we started from"
20) "When it becomes too much you'll shout aloud"
21) "Go to see her with her hair hung down, ain't no finer girl in town"
22) "Can you catch it on your tonsils?"
23) "Dead kings, many things I can't define"

24) "Without no seams nor needlework"
25) "A dreamer of pictures, I run in the night"
26) "People passin' by just look at my baby"
27) "Lady of the house wondering where its gonna' stop"
28) "Now I'm falling from her skies"

Enjoy and good luck!

I might have the title wrong for 17.
It's the song that goes "You put the lime in the coconut and drink 'em all up."

So the theme of 12-17 is fruits?

Otherwise 13 could be "Killing Floor" by Howlin' Wolf

And I guess 24 is in there because the chorus is "Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme."

Not yet identified is 4, which is from Alice's Restaurant by Arlo Guthrie. This is the song that was in last week's quiz as well and is significant this week because of Thanksgiving.

Great job, Soccer Dad, Lel, Yitzchak, and TRN! This week's theme was eating/food, certainly an appropriate one for those of us still digesting "a Thanksgiving meal that can't be beat", in the words of Arlo Guthrie. And speaking of which, special kudos to TRN for finding the common song of this week's food theme and last week's Autobiography theme, "Alice's Restaurant", a Thanksgiving tradition second only to turkey.

Here are the full set of responses, along with the sub-theme of each section:

5) "Drop a dime in the box, play a song about New Orleans"

Main Courses (not that I'd eat most of these, being kosher and all... :-))
6) "Not too particular, not too precise"

Well actually you could partake of #11 on Rosh Hashanna.
