RIP, Dave Cockrum

Dave Cockrum, comic book artist extraordinaire, passed away earlier this week at the age of 63. Among other accomplishments, Cockrum was responsible in 1975, along with writer Len Wein, for the creation of the New X-men, who were to take the comix world by Storm (and Wolverine, and Colossus,...) within a decade.

Cowboys hope to die with their boots on. Comic book people probably dream of going the way Dave did, in their Superman pajamas. Or to paraphrase The Righteous Brothers, if there's a Marvel heaven, they've got a hell of a bullpen. Rest in peace, Dave.
