Pen-empty Nest
Our kid's away, thank God
Our kid's away!
We've sent him off to camp
At thirty bucks a day-ay-ay-ay.
Though it is much too much
We won't complain
'Cause if we make a fuss
They'll send him back, they'll send him back
Again!

For the next four weeks, Debbie and I have an almost-empty nest. Ben left on Sunday for a boys' sleepaway camp, where he'll be a staff member. And this morning, Shayna (our baby! sniff!) left for her first time ever at sleepaway camp! Shalom will be our only child at home until July 25th.
Feels very weird.

How on earth do yooou still remember these lyrics 33 years later?

Whoops a few too many o's there.
"Shalom" will be your only child at home for a few weeks -- so "peace" will reign...?
Dear Reb Elie, ...
Would you have it any other way ...?
I remain,
Very Sincerely yours,
Alan D. Busch
Tova: A few of those MAD song parodies from my childhood just stuck in my head. They're so clever!
Pearl: As Bill Cosby says, if you have only one kid and they keep saying "stop hitting me, stop touching me, etc." [e.g. typical sibling fights] then you have a real problem! So in a sense, yes the lack of sibling squabbling is small-s shalom. Meanwhile, big-S Shalom, our perennial middle child, is looking forward to the "only child" role for the next few weeks!
Alan: Though I miss Ben and Shayna, I'm happy that they felt independent enough to go. It's the first time away from home for both of them.
Cute song enjoy the time without the kiddies. Take advantage.
