Musical Monday #146
Welcome to the 146th edition of Musical Monday, the weekly quiz that Soccer Dad and I alternate hosting. As always, the challenge is to identify the title and artist of each song quote below, as well as the common theme of the entire set of songs.
The songs are broken into three sub-themes, 1-18, 19-28, and 29-31. Each sub-theme contributes to the overall theme; or more exactly, the second and third sub-themes contribute to the first.

32 Comments:
1. Our House - CSN
29. On the Roof - Carole King, James Taylor
2) Our House, Madness
6) Brick House, Commodores
13) Burning Down the House, Talking Heads
19) Another Brick in the Wall, Pink Floyd
behind the WALLS of sleep - the smithereens
HOUSE of the rising sun - The animals
11 - House at Pooh Corner - Kenny Loggins
19 - Another Brick in the Wall (Pt. II) - Pink Floyd
28 - Castle Walls - Styx
The theme must be houses, and the parts they're made of.
17 - Pink Houses - John Cougar Mellencamp (or whatever the record company was calling him at the time :)
17.Little Pink Houses-John Mellencamp
19.Brick in the Wall-Pink Floyd
7 - Red House - Jimi Hendrix
7. Red House - Jimi Hendrix
8. Hyacinth House - Doors
13. Bad Moon on the Rise? --CCR (Doesn't seem to fit the theme)
26. Wall Street Shuffle - 10cc
For some reason 18 makes me start humming "Houses of the Holy" by Led Zeppelin, which is probably in there somewhere even if it isn't 18. Aren't Zeppelin songs only about Satan if you play them backwards?
12 Stranger in the House - Elvis Costello? Not sure if I'm right.
9, I think, is House of the Rising Sun. The Animals got it from Dylan and he recorded some other folkie's arrangement of it without permission, but I can't remember who.
Is "Baby, let's play house" by Elvis in there?
20) Dancing on the ceiling - Lionel Ritchie (?)
Yitzchak: You're correct, #18 is Houses of the Holy.
13 is actually "Burning down the house" by the Talking Heads, I think.
27. Bouncing Off the Walls - Sugarcult
Two songs I could think of would be "Looking out my back door" by CCR and "Back door man" by the Doors (and ... Yitz would know who did the original.)
Oh and how could I forget:
She came in through the bathroom window by some obscure British group in the 60's.
and ... Yitz would know who did the original
Howlin' Wolf
24 - Flowers on the Wall - The Statler Brothers
Thanks Yitz.
SJ, the answer to 27 makes me wonder if that naughty song by Sheena Easton is included.
I'm also starting to wonder if it's just houses, walls and roofs but not other parts of a house like rooms and doors. (In my room by the Beach Boys doesn't appear to be here.)
So far, we have:
1) Our House - Crosby, Stills and Nash
2) Our House - Madness
3) "So when you need a little peace of mind, come on over boy, anytime"
4) "There's my chair, I put it there"
5) "And ghostly voices rose from the fields"
6) Brick House - The Commodores
7) Red House - Jimi Hendrix
8) Hyacinth House - The Doors
9) House of the Rising Sun - The Animals, Bob Dylan, "some other folkie" :)
10) "Loneliness, the face of pilgrims eyes was known"
11) House at Pooh Corner - Kenny Loggins
12) Stranger in the House - Elvis Costello
13) Burning Down the House - Talking Heads
14) "They studied under Attila the Hun"
15) "The chrome, the steel, the metal dream"
16) "Now we're spinning empty bottles"
17) Pink Houses - John Cougar Mellencamp
18) Houses of the Holy - Led Zeppelin
19) Another Brick in the Wall (Pt. II) - Pink Floyd
20) Dancing on the Ceiling - Lionel Richie
21) "But he hesitates, then withdraws"
22) "She had hair like Jeannie Shipton back in 1965"
23) "Nobody's perfect, mister, nobody's clean"
24) Flowers on the Wall - The Statler Brothers
25) "I helped a young laddie called Ivan"
26) Wall Street Shuffle - 10cc
27) Bouncing Off the Walls - Sugarcult
28) Castle Walls - Styx
29) Up On the Roof - Carole King, James Taylor
30) "Come with me, and we shall run across the sky"
31) "I woke this morning found my hands were frozen"
"the answer to 27 makes me wonder if that naughty song by Sheena Easton is included."
I thought of another rather rudely-titled song by the J. Geils Band that would also fit in the 2nd group, but it doesn't seem to be here either. :)
Good job so far, all! Here are a comments/hints on a few of the remaining ones:
10) Prog-rock song which appears in two parts on the album, separated by a different, better known song.
14) Theme to one of my favorite movies.
15-16) Two different songs with the same title, recorded almost 40 years apart.
20) Is not the song listed above - and as per Soccer Dad's surmise at 6/23/10 11:19 AM, that song would not fit the theme. However, it's by a somewhat similar artist and from a few years earlier.
21) Should be a gimme for Soccer Dad! :-)
22) Was guessed above (6/21/10 11:39 PM) but is not in the summary list.
23) "Newer" (i.e., early 90s) song by my favorite artist.
14) Theme to one of my favorite movies.
Animal House?
21) If it's a "gimme for Soccer Dad" then it's probably Simon and Garfunkel.
How about "Poem on an underground WALL?"
Would 14 then be
Animal House by ?
Correct on both, TRN and Soccer Dad!
On a separate note I am working to post - extremely late but hopefully still somewhat better than never - solutions for the last several MMs. I'll hold off on this one another day or so.
