Musical Monday #116

Welcome to the 116th edition of Musical Monday, the weekly quiz that Soccer Dad and I alternate hosting. As always, the challenge is to identify the title and artist of each song quote below, as well as the common theme of the entire set of songs.

I could say much more about the timeliness of the theme, but I'll hold off for now. Just to note that the second group of songs (24-32) go with a somewhat lesser version/variation of the theme, with the very last song just barely making it (which is sort of its point!)

1) "He said, kill it before it grows"
2) "I'm goin' way down south, way down to Mexico way"
3) "Get high and watch the tube"
4) "Don't touch me I'm a real live wire"
5) "What reason do you need to be shown?"
6) "Don't ever ride on the devil's knee, Mama said"
7) "And Miss Patty Valentine just nodded her head"
8) "So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye"
9) "And now MacHeath spends just like a sailor"
10) "Wrapped up in a black cat cloak"
11) "Yeah, she could drag me, over the rainbow"
12) "You just do it with a little more finesse"
13) "That equipment you got's so outdated"
14) "I bet there's rich folk eatin' in a fancy dining car"
15) "Right through the hardwood door"
16) "The night was clear and the moon was yellow"
17) "And slapped the sheriff on the back with a smile"
18) "He jacked the little bitty baby"
19) "Well sir, I guess there's just a meanness in this world"
20) "Two feets they come a creepin', like a black cat do"
21) "In the land of the dollar bill"
22) "He took in the four a.m. show at the Clark"
23) "Painting testimonial pictures"

24) "A scene badly written in which I must play"
25) "Well he never had a sweetheart"
26) "I crossed my old man back in Oregon"
27) "I miss my baby and the, good fun"
28) "So I might as well begin to put some action in my life"
29) "Not a Gatlin boy was standing"
30) "You got problems in your life of love"
31) "And remember, just don't smile"
32) "And that's not to mention the aerial photography"

Good luck and enjoy!
