Musical Monday #86

Welcome to the 86th edition of Musical Monday, the weekly quiz that Soccer Dad and I alternate hosting. As always, the challenge is to identify the title and artist of each song quote below, as well as the common theme of the entire set of songs.

This week there are three groups of songs, demarcated by spaces. Each group has a separate theme of its own, which, when taken together, will point to the overall theme of this week's Musical Monday. Yes, I know the middle group contains just one song (#33), but I'm quite sure you clever folks do still have a good chance of solving the puzzle!

1) "We were liberated from the fold, that's all"
2) "But she gets it while she can"
3) "Gonna' hang me up in the doorway"
4) "Yeah, the bad guys know us"
5) "I ain't got time for true confessions"
6) "And if I do I know the way there"
7) "I pound on the windows like a bee inside a jar"
8) "My favorite flavor, cherry red"
9) "Sometimes you keep busy reaching out for something"
10) "Ivanhoe and Lancelot, they don't envy me"
11) "And pocket full of keys that have no bounds"
12) "We are but a moment's sunlight, fading in the grass"
13) "I'm thinking about the fireworks that go off when you smile"
14) "And she'll cry just to think I'd really leave her"
15) "I love too hard my friends sometimes say"
16) "How white my shirts could be"
17) "I've got no time for trivialities"
18) "Will you walk away from a fool and his money?"
19) "I nearly died from hospitality"
20) "If you wanna play hide and seek with love"
21) "She throws the want ads right my way"
22) "You wave it like a flag, you wear it like a crown"
23) "Where we can get together, and ease up our mind"
24) "In my mind you have taken up permanent space"
25) "Lovely is fhe feelin' now, fever, temperatures risin' now"
26) "I can build a castle from a single grain of sand"
27) "We're all sensitive people with so much to give"
28) "The one that made me shiver, made my knees start to quiver"
29) "He says, it's three a.m., there's too much noise"
30) "Watched his hair been turnin' grey"
31) "You say you hungry, I give you meat"
32) "So bar maid bring a pitcher, another round o' brew"

33) "But I say, please listen when I say" OR "And not me but the people they say"

34) "Makes you give in and cry"
35) "There's some kind of magic inside you"
36) "Maybe I'm an open book because I know you're mine"
37) "That fatal kiss is all we need"
38) "See him surface in every shadow"
39) "You play with words, you play with love"
40) "A pretty face can hide an evil mind"

Blasts From Purim Past

Sorry folks! I had this brilliant, erudite, hilarious Purim spiel all written and set to post last night. We went out to megillah reading, and Sandy, insulted at being left behind, ate my entire post! I think I may be taking that Korean restaurant up on their offer after all...

Above you see Sandy, pleading for clemency after finishing off all those delicious electrons! :-)

So now that I've found a scape-dog for my laziness, here are some links to my past Purim posts for you to enjoy again. They might be leftovers, but hopefully still tasty!

5766: You Might Be Yeshivish

5767: Dear Abby (Abie?), Boro Park Style

5768: Ain't It a Shem

5768: Maseches Grynegznham

And for good measure, yesterday's Purim-themed Musical Monday!

HAPPY PURIM 5769!!

Musical Monday #84

Welcome to the 84th edition of Musical Monday, the weekly quiz that Soccer Dad and I alternate hosting. As always, the challenge is to identify the title and artist of each song quote below, as well as the common theme of the entire set of songs.

Couple of notes. Today in particular, I'm especially looking for the singer as well as the name of each song- the former will often be more difficult. As a bit of help, I'll state that I included no more than two songs by any given artist, and that any such pairs are consecutive. Otherwise, the songs are in no particular order. I also kept the total to 50, simply as a nice round number. That said, I especially encourage folks to add their additional fitting songs for the rest to guess, once the theme is IDed - which I suspect won't take long! :-)

Let the fun begin!!

1) "As long as you don't let 'em in your school"
2) "The last time I needed twenty stitches"
3) "There was junk all over the floor"
4) "Don't you know that other kids are starving in Japan?"
5) "He made my lapels an inch too wide!"
6) "And also crepe suzettes and steak"
7) "Cause we can't find reverse"
8) "Colonel Sanders wants to cook his goose"
9) "To complicate the matter, though it really brought me joy"
10) "I light a match to see the dash"
11) "Sell it to the circus, what the heck"
12) "They can't play baseball, they don't wear sweaters"
13) "No need explaining the one leg remaining"
14) "They don't chase squirrels at all"
15) "You can dice, you can slice and fillet them"
16) "And basket weavers who sit and smile"
17) "Hey man, dig that was that a red stop sign"
18) "It was right outside the Frontier Deli"
19) "The guy who does the voice for Scooby Doo"
20) "Once while swimming cross turtle creek"
21) "One day I looked into my kit"
22) "We shared a seat and we shared our tales"
23) "They has a fit while I commit my social suicide"
24) "Don't be a naughty eskimo"
25) "He took in the four am show at the Clark"
26) "It's just a jump to the left"
27) "To get a jolt from my electrodes"
28) "As a gift they left a blue silk ribbon tied into a bow"
29) "And his fate is still unlearned"
30) "I hollered...Don't look Ethel!"
31) "Well, he brought that camel to a screechin' halt"
32) "Our country's got a feeling, really hit the ceiling"
33) "I got a John Keats autographed Grecian urn"
34) "Did you do the monkey?"
35) "Don't touch that, for goodness sake; you'll release the parking brake"
36) "And then he swung from the tree and lit on the ground"
37) "Vould would leave it if you could?"
38) "How in the world could I keep my seat?"
39) "And the pudding made of fig"
40) "You been keeping love from me just like you were a miser"
41) "Doctor, to relieve this belly ache?"

46) "On Wednesdays I go shopping"
47) "We do routines and chorus scenes"
48) "My natural exuberance spills out all over the place"

Watching Watchmen

Not yet, but I will be, about an hour from now! (No, Shalom couldn't talk me into a 12:01 am opening day showing again!) I'll let you know how close the movie came to doing justice to the source material, which, as I've written before, is one of the very few graphic novels for which the second part of that appelation is fully deserved. It's not a good sign that the author wanted nothing to do with the movie adaptation, but I commit to approach it with an open mind anyway.

Conversely though, here's my advice for anyone considering seeing the movie: Read the book first! I mean it - you'll regret it if you don't.

Musical Monday #83

Welcome to the 83rd edition of Musical Monday, the weekly quiz that Soccer Dad and I alternate hosting. As I mentioned last week, we made a last-minute decision to switch weeks for #82 and #83. So the MM I had prepared for #82 is here today, and I'll hopefully be back again a week from today with MM #84.

As always, the challenge is to identify the title and artist of each song quote below, as well as the common theme of the entire set of songs. Some of the individual songs may be a bit harder to ID than usual this week, but the overall theme likely will not be. Also, please note the following:
A) I didn't separate it into any sub-themes today, though I could have created a lot of them.
B) I took advantage of the extra week to add a few more songs to today's theme. For extra credit, tell me how many extra, and why!

1) "Life gets me higher, I can show, I can go"
2) "Must have counted every cloud in the sky that night"
3) "Where is that simple day before colors broke into shades?"
4) "Like going up to heaven and then coming back alive"
5) "And give no warning to her flight"
6) "And even when it would rain we would laugh it off"
7) "Still it holds a goodly share of bliss"
8) "Never missed a warm embrace"
9) "Tracy died soon after a long fought civil war"
10) "When I was small, and Christmas trees were tall"
11) "I laughed at all of your jokes"
12) "Even rode my motorcycle in the rain"
13) "With your chrome heart shining in the sun"
14) "Of juniper and lamplight"
15) "Like Columbus in the olden days, we must gather all our courage"
16) "Don't stop the flow, we can't let go"
17) "Throw the top back, and roll down to Jackson town"
18) "And the rompin' river pushes"
19) "Chasin' the factory girls underneath the boardwalk"
20) "Against a little girl of 6 years old, the independent one"
21) "In the key that our souls were singing"
22) "Why, you've become a grown-up girl!"
23) "I love you, boy never mind, I've been crying all the time"
24) "My friends look forward to their picnics on the beach"
25) "Seven years has gone so fast"
26) "There is danger in the summer moon above"
27) "And kingdoms rise, and kingdoms fall, but you go on"
28) "When even friends seem out to harm you"
29) "As I recall it ended much too soon"
30) "And it's one more day up in the canyons"
31) "Just tilt my sun towards your domain"

Good luck and enjoy!
